South African National Rugby Union Team To Include Members Of Non White Races Mandatorily

According to the South African Rugby Union, the team will include seven players who belong to any race other than Caucasian in their team. The South African Rugby team will compete in 2015 Rugby World cup and the decision was taken right before that.

The team would consist of twenty three players. Two of the seven players who will be included in the South African national Rugby Union Team have to be blacks according to the latest announcement. The plan actually is to increase member of the black races in the National level Sports team. Half of the members of a South African National Sports team must consist of players who do not belong to the Caucasian race; this must be achieved before the year 2019.

Jurie Roux, who is the Chief Executive of the South African Rugby Union has said that the aforementioned system which is about to be in effect is not in any way a quota system.

The decision is not only about numbers, according to Mr Roux. The decision mentioned above is in line with the current South African Government’s policy. He said that Judgements will be made according to representation on the field but he also thinks that the coach of the South African National Rugby team will feel a lot of pressure if he is not offered any help. The team that will be selected by the 47 years old Coach of the National Rugby Union team of South Africa, Mr. Heyneke Meyer will only consist of players who are the top performers in the domestic level.

The team chosen by Heyneke Meyer for the match that took place last year in the month of November where the springboks faced off against the Welsh team consisted of only one player who was black. The name of that player is Tendai Mtawarira. He is 29 years old now and is not likely to get selected in the national team.
