BALMY BEACH RUGBY SET FOR MAY 28

Balmy Beach rugby is all set to begin on May 28 at the Ashbridges Bay field. They came close last year with the men’s premier team ousted in double overtime in the McCormick Cup semifinals.

The men’s second team came even closer, although suffering an untimely loss in the Gee Gage Cup championship after winning every regular season game.

The club, however, did take some consolation in its second straight club championship, which is basically awarded to the club with the best overall performance of its men’s teams.

The club was also proud to have some players suit up for the national team, as well as win a design award as the team with the best Beach Rugby Shirts.

“The senior men’s and junior program alike saw success on the international level with Mark MacSween (senior 15), Conor McCann (U18), Liam Underwood (U20) and Kyle Buckley (senior 7s – seven-a-side rugby as opposed to 15-a-side) all pulling on a national team shirt,” said club president Cory Appleton in a press release.
